What is Power BI actually used for in a Philippine workplace?
Not charts. A recurring question somebody asks every Monday, answered once and then answered by itself.
Power BI is Microsoft's reporting tool. You point it at a file or a database, reshape the messy parts in Power Query, write measures in DAX, and publish one page a manager can filter herself. That last part is the point. The deliverable is not a chart you email. It is a page that answers the same question next month without you rebuilding anything.
Here is a concrete version, and it is the brief we publish free on this site. A BPO with 480 employees on file has a retention problem the HR director cannot see in a spreadsheet. You get the HR master file: department, role, hire and exit dates, salary, overtime, satisfaction score. In Power BI you flag who left, write measures for headcount, exits, and attrition rate, band the salaries, and hand back one page with slicers. The published answer key on that brief reads: Headcount is 480 with 140 exits, an overall attrition rate of about 29.2 percent. The worst department is Customer Service at about 37.5 percent attrition. Nobody had to ask you again in February.

When should you use Power BI instead of Excel, SQL, or Tableau?
All four are taught in the same bundle, and they are not competing. They do different jobs in the same pipeline.
Reach for Excel when the question is one-off, the file is small, and you need an answer this hour. Reach for SQL when the data lives in a database and you need to pull and shape it before anything else can touch it. Reach for Power BI when the same question comes back every month, when someone other than you needs to filter the answer, and when the numbers have to recompute correctly at every level of a report rather than sitting in frozen cells.
Power BI and Tableau overlap the most, and the choice is usually made for you by whatever the company already runs. Power BI tends to win where the workplace already lives in Microsoft tools. Tableau tends to win on exploratory visual work. Either way the transferable skill is the same: a clean model, a correct measure, and one page a decision maker can read without you standing next to it.
